10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always fun for a lot of us. But it should be done. As the winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your house?
The exterior of your home could likely use some tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the curb appeal of your home in Chattanooga Pressure, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save a lot of money in years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time to clean out your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris pile up in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Home window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t give you much of a problem, but second and third floor windows can be trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. This means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your house, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem counter-productive because you’ll just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also, consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to forget about it in the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in bad condition the first time you walk onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common home roof issues in Chattanooga Pressure. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s a great time to clean your roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.

The best process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and then leave it be. This solution will eliminate all organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your home is likely what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will even inspire you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and think about painting it for a fresh look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will soon be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is a great chance to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an assigned area outside your home – a place that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and bushes make a major impact on the look of your home.

Eliminate weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family ill.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You could probably finish these projects over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call!
